Part of my "Poissons Volants" series ("Flying Fish)" - combining my love with sea creatures and Rococo era portraiture - "L'Hippocampe" (the seahorse) was such a fun painting to do! In addition to the prismatic sehorse, there are some leafy sea dragons too! Seahorses and Seadragons are two of the most magical little animals (I could hardly believe it the first time I saw a Leafy Sea Dragon - they are amazing). And of course in the spirit of my Poissons Volants series these wee beasties are flying about on beautiful butterfly wings! The original painting debuted and sold at the Spectrum Fantastic Art Live show in 2012, prints and posters are now available! My original acrylic painting. Prints available at [link] and [link]
Sea Dragons are probably one of my main reasons I visit Manta's aquarium. I love that you have the nautilus in her hair too, one of my favorite shells. I am curious to know why the middle of her dress is an insect rather than a mixed creature or more shells.
