Alice in the Starry Night by jasminetoad
Alice in the Starry Night

"Alice in the Starry Night" -  part of my very exciting and in-depth "Alice in Other Lands" series that combines Alice in Wonderland with Art History!  This piece of course showcases Vincent Van Gogh's "The Starry Night" from 1889.  I had so much fun on this one, incorporating Van Gogh's style and colours with my own - you may notice the tips of Alice's strands of hair slowly changing into the starry night behind her... The original acrylic painting has sold, but we do have prints & canvases available now at My original acrylic painting. Prints available at*  and

The Wind in the Willows by jasminetoad
The Wind in the Willows

"The Wind in the Willows" -  this is my submission for Modern Eden Gallery's "Storybook" show.  The show involved us artists creating different interpretations of classic children's books!  I immediately went for Kenneth Grahame's 1908 "The Wind in the Willows" as it's one of my all time favourites.  For my painting, being the artist I am, I wanted to include one of the few human characters in the book (the jailer's daughter, who helps Toad escape from prison).  The background & layout & colours are reminiscent of Victorian painters like Waterhouse, Millais, Tissot (wonderful lazy river scenes).  One of the things I always enjoyed about The Wind in the Willows is how the main characters are animals.  They are usually highly anthropomorphized in more recent illustrations, but I specifically wanted to depict them as the critters they are.  Mr. Badger, Rattie, Mr. Toad and even Mole (on the distant shore) can all be seen.  Ever the bon vivant, Mr. Toad is playing cards and sharing a bottle of wine with his lovely companion.  This is my own original acrylic painting, hand painted on panel, the original is currently at San Francisco's Modern Eden Gallery for the duration of the Storybook show, prints & canvases are available at  My original acrylic painting. Prints available at*  and

Unseelie Court: Famine by jasminetoad
Unseelie Court: Famine
The fourth painting in a my series called "The Unseelie Court" - specifically for the subset inspired by the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse - this is "Famine." Each painting in my Unseelie Court series depicts important individuals or families within the Unseelie Court. Exploring the darker side of the Fairy Court, the Unseelie faeries take their theming from unpleasant aspects of the magical and natural world. But of course despite being wicked they will have a beautiful and refinded elegance about them.... This particular painting in the series symbolizes "Famine". I tried to use a variety of historic magery from many cultures and centuries past - from the Dublin potato famine sculptures to the Egyptian hieroglyphs depicting famine in Saqqara, to medieval altarpieces. So many great references in this one, really speaks to the Art History nerd in me, loads going on. Her tattoo is the symbol of the balance scales, traditional associated with the apocalyptic personification of Famine. The original piece is sold, but prints, canvases & posters are available. Check out to see the others in the series! Stay tuned for the Unseelie Court: Deadly Sins subset! This is my own original acrylic painting.

Hi Jasmine! My mom is a huge fan of yours (many of her tatoos are your works), and her birthday is coming up. I was wondering if you could please maybe write her a birthday message, give her an autograph, or anything really. She's still recovering from surgery, and I wanted to make this birthday special. Anything would be awesome, really.
