Unseelie Court: Lust by jasminetoad
Unseelie Court: Lust

The second of my "Seven Deadly Sins" collection of my "Unseelie Court" series - "Lust!" My Unseelie Court series focuses on the darker aspects of the faerie world, combined with historic and art-history references.  The first collection in the series featured the Apocalypse themes (Famine, War, Pestilence, Death) and this new collection features each of the Seven Deadly Sins.  "Lust" explores the sin of, well, lustfulness.  All of my Unseelie Court pieces feature Art History themes, and this one does as well - a lot of imagery in this (historical allegorical references include Collier, Manet, Van Dyck, Fragonard, Girodet & more - have fun spotting them!).  The diagram/symbol on her dress is that of Asmodel, spirit of Lust, the Asian kanji tattoo on her arm is again, that for lust.  What looks like the mosaic/censored/pixellated part in the middle is NOT actually at all - it's handpainted tiny little squares I did myself to emulate the look of censorship - it is not edited, that's what my painting actually looks like (that was hard to do with acrylic paints, hehe!).  Even though this is not the largest painting I've done, it's certainly the one I have spent the most hours painting on.  PS - despite all the flesh shown in this painting, there is no actual "nudity" in the "naughty bits" sense of the word, so there is nothing in violation of any websites' or social media sites' guidelines. It's a PG rating at best.   Be sure to check out the others in the Unseelie Court series and keep an eye out for more to come! My original acrylic painting. Carnevale di Morte by jasminetoad
Carnevale di Morte

"Carnevale di Morte" -  this is my illustration for the 78 Tarot's "Carnival" deck. I was assigned the "Death" card, and as it's carnival themed I've gone the Venetian masquerade route on this one, and I love it!  I've given her a dark red dress (it kind of has a Masque of the Red Death feel to it).  The background has an Italianate feel. The skeleton guy on the horse skeleton is based on a very old anatomy etching I came across. As it needed to encompass the Tarot Death card themes as well as the Carnival theme, there are small dancing masked figures or skeletons circling around her, and death on his skeletal horse in the distance. My Plague Doctor / Alchemist character (he appears in a lot of my works) is looming behind her.  Love this piece - stay tuned for the Carnival deck from the team at 78 Tarot - it's going to be wonderful!  My own acrylic painting, the original has sold but we have prints & canvases available. My original acrylic painting. Summer

Summer - the summer fairy from my solo show "The Four Seasons" I held at Pop Gallery at Disney Springs in 2015.      Each of my four seasons fairies represents a specific season, and this one has captured the feel of a summer night!  The colors are rich & gorgeous in this one, and her owl friend is just adorable.  I love the glow of the fireflies flying about this painting, defnitely makes me think of summer.  Each of the four seasons fairies are tied together by brilliant butterflies - be sure to check out the others on this site!  We have multiple sizes of glossy paper prints for sale ourselves at Strangeling.com . Spring by jasminetoad
Spring

Spring - the spring fairy from my solo show "The Four Seasons" I held at Pop Gallery at Disney Springs in 2015.      Each of my four seasons fairies represents a specific season, and this one is definitely spring!  I've shown her with a couple beautiful bunnies (the one in the back is my friend Beth's bunny Tornado) - flowers in her hair, bright springy colors, the background reminiscent of 19th century romantic landscapes.  I love how the light shows through her wings in this one!  Each of the four seasons fairies are tied together by brilliant butterflies - be sure to check out the others on this site!  We have multiple sizes of glossy paper prints for sale ourselves at Strangeling.com .
