Pipistrello by jasminetoad

"Pipistrello" (Italian for "bat")- an illustration for a short story written by Amber Logan that will be appearing in my upcoming art book (a sequel to Strangeling - my first book ) - the followup will be published next year by Blue Angel.  Pipistrello is a very interesting character - she can send out bats to do her bidding, she's kinda like a little superhero......  My own original acrylic painting. My original acrylic painting. Prints available at*  and

The Little Match Girl by jasminetoad
The Little Match Girl

"The Little Match Girl" is an illustration for my Fairytale Oracle deck (with author Lucy Cavendish) due out in 2015.  A classic tale by Hans Christian Andersen, one of the saddest children's stories of all time, if you ask me!  This poor little thing is on her last match, shortly to die from the cold as the snow swirls around her.  There is a message of hope here however, as she reunites with her beloved grandmother in heaven.  This is an acrylic painting, I had a wonderful time with the many layers of paint - glazing it with a lot of water to create the beautiful lighting in this piece. My original acrylic painting. Prints available at*  and

Paisley by jasminetoad

Meet "Paisley" - a sweet little hippie fairy - a character illustration in the sequel to my "Strangeling" book, again featuring short stories - piece I'm painting now is for Kachina Mickeletto's short story. Paisley (also the middle name of my niece, Eleanor Paisley) is a flower child/hippie sort of of fairy, so this piece is very colourful - full of flowers, tie-dyed wings, and kind of a 60s psychedelic feel. The art/story book will be out 2015 and is published by Blue Angel. The original piece is SOLD, but prints, canvases & posters are available This is my own original acrylic painting. My original acrylic painting. Prints available at*  and

Unseelie Court: Death by jasminetoad
Unseelie Court: Death

The third painting in a series I'm debuting called "The Unseelie Court" - specifically for the subset inspired by the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse - this is the piece I painted "live" as a demostration at my gallery at the Kansas City Renaissance Festival.   Each painting in my Unseelie Court series depicts important individuals or families within the Unseelie Court.  Exploring the darker side of the Fairy Court, the Unseelie faeries take their theming from slightly unpleasant aspects of the magical and natural world.  But of course despite being wicked they will have a beautiful and refinded elegance about them.... This particular painting in the series symbolizes "Death".  I tried to use a variety of death imagery from many cultures and centuries past - pre-Columbian Central American carvings, Egyptian Book of the Dead, medieval/renaissance Europe and beyond (her scythe has a distinctly contemporary video game feel...).  So many great references in this one, really speaks to the Art History nerd in me (especially Saturn Eating His Children in her skirts, and the Burial at Ornans funeral).  The original piece sold, but prints, canvases & posters are available.  Stay tuned for Famine later, before I begin on the Unseelie Court:  Deadly Sins subset!  This is my own original acrylic painting. My original acrylic painting. You are one of my favorite modern day artists, and I have two of your figurines. They're so adorable.
I ABOSULTELY LOVE your Maleficent painting. She has been my favorite Disney villain from the very first time I watched Sleeping Beauty, when I was maybe five years old. It's about time she has stepped into the limelight, I've been able to collect more Mal merchandise in the past few months than I have in years! And I really do like how the live action movie was portrayed.
Just want to let you know I'm an adoring fan.
