Paisley by jasminetoad
Paisley

Meet "Paisley" - a sweet little hippie fairy - a character illustration in the sequel to my "Strangeling" book, again featuring short stories - piece I'm painting now is for Kachina Mickeletto's short story. Paisley (also the middle name of my niece, Eleanor Paisley) is a flower child/hippie sort of of fairy, so this piece is very colourful - full of flowers, tie-dyed wings, and kind of a 60s psychedelic feel. The art/story book will be out 2015 and is published by Blue Angel. The original piece is SOLD, but prints, canvases & posters are available This is my own original acrylic painting. My original acrylic painting. Prints available at www.zazzle.com/strangeling*  and  www.strangeling.com

Unseelie Court: Death by jasminetoad
Unseelie Court: Death

The third painting in a series I'm debuting called "The Unseelie Court" - specifically for the subset inspired by the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse - this is the piece I painted "live" as a demostration at my gallery at the Kansas City Renaissance Festival.   Each painting in my Unseelie Court series depicts important individuals or families within the Unseelie Court.  Exploring the darker side of the Fairy Court, the Unseelie faeries take their theming from slightly unpleasant aspects of the magical and natural world.  But of course despite being wicked they will have a beautiful and refinded elegance about them.... This particular painting in the series symbolizes "Death".  I tried to use a variety of death imagery from many cultures and centuries past - pre-Columbian Central American carvings, Egyptian Book of the Dead, medieval/renaissance Europe and beyond (her scythe has a distinctly contemporary video game feel...).  So many great references in this one, really speaks to the Art History nerd in me (especially Saturn Eating His Children in her skirts, and the Burial at Ornans funeral).  The original piece sold, but prints, canvases & posters are available.  Stay tuned for Famine later, before I begin on the Unseelie Court:  Deadly Sins subset!  This is my own original acrylic painting. My original acrylic painting. Prints available at www.zazzle.com/strangeling*  and  www.strangeling.com

One of the pieces I painted for Disney that debuted at the WonderGround Gallery in the Downtown Disney® District at the Disneyland® Resort in Anaheim, CA. Licensed & contracted by Disney, ©Disney, this is my original acrylic painting featuring Disney’s Evil Queen from the animated film “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs”.   Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is one of my favorite Disney classics.  When I was a kid, I remember my grandmother telling me that she saw it in the theatres when she was a little girl, which totally blew my mind!  The Evil Queen is such an archetypal character; she helped define my notion of a true "villain."  She is beautiful, vindictive, fabulous, but incredibly powerful - juxtaposing petty jealousy with supernatural thrill.  One of the most unforgettable scenes has to be her consultation of the mystical servant in the Magic Mirror (who I find creepy even to this day).  I have painted my interpretation of the Evil Queen in my usual stylized characterization, an acrylic painting capturing the mood & mystery of her conversation with the Magic Mirror.

Prints, merchandise and limited edition canvases are available exclusively through Disney.

You can visit WonderGround Gallery in person at Disneyland or you can call:

Merchandise Guest Services at 877-560-6477 – then select Opt. 2 for Art and Collectibles which is the category that WonderGround merchandise falls under.

Let them know you would like to order Jasmine Becket-Griffith’s “Evil Queen” from WonderGround Gallery and they will let you know what sizes, pricing and merchandise options are available. They will ship worldwide!

I often visit WonderGround Gallery to do live appearances, be sure to check my Event Calendar to see when I’ll be there next with more Disney art! ©Disney

One of the pieces I painted for Disney that debuted at the WonderGround Gallery in the Downtown Disney® District at the Disneyland® Resort in Anaheim, CA. Licensed & contracted by Disney, ©Disney, this is my original acrylic painting featuring Disney’s "Tightrope Girl".   This piece is inspired by one of the most iconic scenes in one of my all-time favorite Disney attractions - The Haunted Mansion! The infamous room that houses the stretching portraits left a huge impression on me as a child - a true piece of Walt Disney Imagineering magic. The delightful creepiness of the character known as the "Tightrope Girl" speaks to me in particular, and as a Florida girl, I identify with the alligator-based narrative.  In my interpretation I have painted her as a tall, narrow acrylic painting to keep the general aesthetic of the portrait in full "stretch." Keeping with the Southern Gothic feel of The Haunted Mansion in New Orleans Square at the Disneyland® Resort, I have expanded the atmospheric background into an immersive Louisiana swamp, and of course the character herself has been given my personal treatment with the larger head / big eyes painted in the pop surrealist/Jasmine Becket-Griffith style.

You are one of my favorite modern day artists, and I have two of your figurines. They're so adorable.
I ABOSULTELY LOVE your Maleficent painting. She has been my favorite Disney villain from the very first time I watched Sleeping Beauty, when I was maybe five years old. It's about time she has stepped into the limelight, I've been able to collect more Mal merchandise in the past few months than I have in years! And I really do like how the live action movie was portrayed.
Just want to let you know I'm an adoring fan.
